The present protocol being followed by the WHO and the various States are mentioning multiple small meals in  a day in place of two square meals as was practiced in India for ages. The protocols also do not take care to clarify that some of these small meals cannot be snacks which are based on maida and sugar. Practically, small frequent meals translate for common people as commercially available snacks like biscuits, burgers, pizzas and even colas. The adverse effect of these on health is very well documented but very poorly communicated.

3S and Our Health Society has urged for a change in the Diabetes Management Protocol or at least research to be commissioned to check the utility of the present protocol. There are studies which the Society has been able to find which suggests that reducing the number of meals aids the treatment of diabetes. However, the same is not acknowledged in the Treatment protocol that is practiced now. The lifestyle change part which is present in the extant protocol is also not followed by many practitioners. They start with medication right away and this result in a situation where patients have to continuously eat high glycemic food just to keep their glucose level from going down resulting into hypo glycemia. This is a typical instance of over medication. To top it, the common refrain is that diabetes is not treatable but can only be managed.

3S and Our Health Society strongly suggests  taking cognisance of the diabetes reversal experience of Dr. Jagannath Dixit. It also suggests that research be commissioned into this space so that the exact consequence of our lifestyle is available for everyone to learn from. The same has been suggested as a research question to multiple agencies as below. Any researcher who can come forward to spearhead this effort will find all support from 3S and Our Health Society.
